Langar Seva

The community kitchen of Waheguru — where every meal is a prayer, every volunteer is a saint, and every plate served is an act of divine love.

The Tradition

What is Langar?

Langar is the institution of the community kitchen — a free meal served to all who come to the Gurdwara, regardless of religion, caste, gender, economic status, or background. Everyone sits together on the floor as equals and is served the same food.

This profound tradition was established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. The 3rd Sikh Guru, Guru Amar Das Ji, institutionalized it by requiring all visitors — including Emperor Akbar — to eat in the Langar before meeting the Guru.

At Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, langar is served three times a day, every single day of the year — including on all festival days when over 1,000 plates are served.

The food in langar is always vegetarian, prepared with love by volunteers, and cooked fresh for each meal.
